Heather Boyd, Artist, Winnipeg, Manitoba
I am currently a resident of Winnipeg, living in the Exchange District of the city. This area is the artistic centre of Winnipeg and a designated historic area. I am surrounded by history, my studio and residence is in a converted warehouse that is over 100 years old. I am within walking distance of Portage & Main, the Red River and the Forks at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers.
As I live in the centre of Winnipeg, my goal is to capture in my paintings my view of this area, so that others may appreciate it. I work in both oil and acrylic mediums and like do large format paintings.
I moved to Winnipeg at the end of 2006, with the goal of pursuing a fulltime career as an artist. It has always been my goal to be an artist. I started out my education at the University of Manitoba in Fine arts, but switched after the first year to Sociology. I felt that I was lacking the life experience and maturity to create art. After working on some community projects in Winnipeg I then decided to become an Accountant. This career took me to Calgary where I lived from 1980 - 2006. I worked in Accounting, Systems development and also started up a Travel Agency. In 2004 I decided it was time to go back to creating art, so in 2006 I sold my Travel Agency and Consulting business and moved back to Winnipeg to focus on my career as an artist.
